GridwiseTech defines a metascheduler as:
"Metascheduling also popularly known as brokering is an important piece in a typical computational Grid. Metascheduling is a technology in the Grid that is responsible for managing jobs and application workflow, including submitting, scheduling, executing, monitoring, stopping, and retrieving results of computational jobs."
